Ainu culture is being promoted at two locations in the town!

(Ureshipa Chise Ainu Cultural Activity Facility)
(Ainu Museum Pokoro)

There are two facilities in Shiranuka where you can experience Ainu culture.

"Ureshipa Chise Ainu Cultural Activity Facility" (free admission)
Ureshipa means "raising each other" in Ainu, and Chise means "home". This is a place to experience, exchange, and promote traditional Ainu culture. Traditional Ainu dance, designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan, and traditional ceremonies such as Kamuinomi are performed here. Ainu embroidery exhibitions and experience classes are also held. Ainu embroidery goods are also available for purchase.

"Ainu Museum Pokoro" (free admission)
A faithful reproduction of the traditional Ainu dwelling, with about 90 items such as ritual implements and daily necessities on display. You can also learn about life in an Ainu kotan (village) through projection mapping.
