Yellow flowers blooming on a hill overlooking the coast

(Shiranuka Town Bashikuru Nature Park)

Pashikuru Swamp is located along National Route 44 between Shiranuka Town and Otonobetsu Town. It is a rare swamp where the water of a river that is blocked by rough waves at the mouth of the river flows into the sea when it is full. It is a popular spot for collecting clams in the summer and smelt fishing by drilling holes in the ice in the winter.

The park with a great view adjacent to Pashikuru Swamp (Pashikuru Nature Park) is perfect for a vacation while driving.

It is also the birthplace of the traditional Ainu dance "Humperi Rimse (Whale Dance)" and is a power spot where the legend of Kamuy (god) who saved the Ainu people from starvation lives on.

But the best time to visit is from mid-June to July! The yellow flowers (Ezokanzo) bloom all over the hills. The contrast with the sea and sky is like another world! Enjoy a walk.
