Kushiro Underground Art Museum

The underground walkway that connects the front and back of JR Kushiro Station is a hotspot representing the art town of Kushiro.

About 400 works from all over Japan, mainly works by artists with disabilities from all over Hokkaido, are displayed on both sides of the approximately 50m wall.

Although many residents use the underground walkway to commute to work or school, it used to have a dark and dirty image. However, since it was reborn as an underground walkway museum in 2017, it has been well received by residents, including elderly people who say that "walking has become more fun" and office ladies who say that "it's no longer scary at night." The number of foreign tourists who visit after seeing it on social media has also increased.
It is now a popular spot known only to those in the know.
